Sustainable Development Goals and Governance Workshop
This event ran over two days where a variety of both academics, industry professionals and students from the UK and Turkey were able to present their research on SDGs.
Dr Guanming He and Prof. Omneya Abdelsalam from Durham University, alongside Assistant Prof. Masoud Shahmanzari and Prof. Ahmet Faruk Aysan from Istanbul Şehir University presented their research on the SDGs.
The presentations from industry included that of Bulent Acikgoz, Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkey, who presented an “Overview of Agenda 2030, Global/National Examples and Cases on how to Mainstream, Localize and Accelerate SDGs”. Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, the Secretary-General of the D-8 discussed the “D-8 and the Implementation of the UN SDGs”. George Bouma, UNDP Sustainable Development Cluster, discussed the “SDGs in Regional Europe and Central Asia and Evidence from the Region to Support the Global Sustainable Development Agenda. Finally, Sahba Sobhani, UNDP, Global Programme Advisor-Private Sector in the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), discussed the “Private Sector and SDGs”.
Finally, a number of students who had benefitted from the SDG Network’s workshops throughout the year had conducted research on the SDGs and presented this research within the programme. This includes Razan Fawaz Aljallad, who researched the “Higher Educational Institute’s Contribution Towards the Success of SDG’s” within Jordan. Mohamed Fouad Bergigui presented his research on ‘Harnessing the disruptive potential of blockchain technology for the sustainable development goals’. Following this, Dilek Kutucu discussed the “Sustainable Development Goals & Governance in Istanbul Chamber of Industry”, whilst Ayça Fettahoğlu discussed the “Sustainable Development Goals & Governance in Istanbul Chamber of Commerce”.
